The Flower Fair, one of the most notable events in the country, attracts thousands of national and international visitors every year. This celebration represents the very essence of the culture, tradition and joy of the Paisa people. However, it is important to keep in mind that due to the presence of liquor in this celebration, both the brandy and imported distillates run the risk of being adulterated and falsified.

Adulterated liquor is an alcoholic beverage that is mixed with dangerous substances such as methanol, industrial alcohol or even water. These components represent a serious threat to health, and can cause severe symptoms such as blindness, seizures, coma and even death.

Unfortunately, during the Flower Fair and many festivities in the country, criminal gangs take advantage of the opportunity to market these counterfeit products, not only at mass events or peripheral areas, but also in bars, taverns, nightclubs and discotheques. Given this worrying situation, the authorities call on all visitors to the Flower Fair to be extremely cautious with the liquor they consume. It is essential to purchase liquor only in reliable and recognized establishments, avoiding at all times buying from street vendors. Furthermore, we should never base our purchasing decision solely on price, as the health risk is too high.

If at any time we suspect that we have consumed adulterated liquor, it is imperative to seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of poisoning from adulterated liquor may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, blurred vision, difficulty breathing, and loss of consciousness.

Tips to avoid the consumption of adulterated liquor:

  • Only purchase liquor from trusted and recognized places.
  • Avoid buying liquor from street vendors.
  • Be wary of excessively low prices, as they could be a sign of adulterated liquor.
  • Check the liquor label carefully to ensure its authenticity.
  • Do not consume liquor that has a strange smell or taste.
  • If you have any doubt about the authenticity of the liquor, refrain from consuming it.
